September 14, 2002—The United States Postal Service issued a stamp  commemorating Ida Tarbell and three other women journalists—Marguerite Higgins, Ethel Payne and Nellie Bly. The set of Four Women in Journalism stamps was issued on September 14, 2002 in Fort Worth Texas. October 7, 2000—Ida M. Tarbell—a leading force in American journalism; a product of the liberal arts, was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, New York. Paula Treckel, Professor of History at Allegheny College, accepted the award in Ida Tarbell's behalf. Dr. Treckel's remarks are reproduced here.

Chautauqua Institute in
August 1997. Treckel, who joined the Allegheny College faculty in
1981, was the 1996 recipient of the Julian Ross Award for Excellence
in Teaching. She is the author of To Comfort the Heart: Women
in 17th Century America.

- November 6, 2001—The United States Postal Service announced that Ida Tarbell will be commemorated in a set of Four Women in Journalism stamps to be issued in recognition of the talents of Ida Tarbell, Marguerite Higgins, Ethel Payne and Nellie Bly. The stamps will be issued on September 12, 2002 in Columbus, Ohio.

- October 11, 2000—The Pennsylvania State House passed a resolution today declaring November 4, 2000, "Ida Tarbell Day" in Pennsylvania. The resolution lists several reasons for the resolution, among them that "Ida Tarbell's passion for truth and knowledge is an enduring legacy for the citizens of this Commonwealth and deserves special recognition." - October 16, 2000—American Experience, the longest running history series on television, broadcast The Rockefellers, a two-part miniseries documenting four generations of the Rockefeller family on PBS October 16 and 23. - March 10, 2000—The National Women's Hall of Fame announced plans to induct Ida Tarbell, and 18 other distinguished American women, into the Hall on October 7, 2000. The Honors Weekend and Induction Ceremony will be held in historic Seneca Falls, New York, the birthplace of women's rights, where the first Women's Rights Convention was held in 1848.
